Professor and Albert Holmes Rowe Endowed Chair of Genetics I
Dr. Wingo is the Albert Holmes Rowe Endowed Chair of Genetics I and Professor of Psychiatry. Her research program interfaces psychiatry, neuroscience, epidemiology, genomics, and functional omics. Its central aim is to identify genes and brainproteins associated with the pathogenesis of major psychiatric disorders - including major depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, alcohol use disorder, and Alzheimer’s dementia – and to translate those findings into prevention strategies and treatments. By integrating genome-wide association studies with brain multi-omics data (microRNAs, transcriptomes, and proteomes), her team has identified candidate proteins implicated in neuropsychiatric disorders that help clarify disease mechanisms and nominate candidate therapeutic targets.
Her work has been published in Nature Aging, Nature Neuroscience, Nature Genetics, and Nature Medicine. Dr. Wingo is committed to training the next generation of scientists and to advance mechanistic understanding of neuropsychiatric disorders, with the ultimate goal of developing effective treatments.

- Characterizing the functions of the identified causal proteins in iPSC-derived brain organoids to accelerate therapeutic target prioritization and treatment development.
- Harnessing large-scale electronic health records (VA, UC Davis Health, UK Biobank) for actionable clinical applications of genomic and proteomic discoveries, including drug repurposing and pharmacogenomics.
