Research Summary:

Our research applies novel diagnostic technologies to improve outcomes in trauma and burn patient populations. Currently, we are conducting a multi center (5-sites) randomized controlled trial to assess the clinical impact of rapid, quantitative PCR-based Staphylococcus aureus detection in burn sepsis patients. We are also evaluating the effects of new innovative biosensor technologies at the bedside to improve glycemic control, help guide nephrotoxic antimicrobial drug therapy, and reduce acute kidney in severely burned patients. Our laboratory also focuses on developing novel health informatics tools for use at the point-of-care to improve clinical-decision making.

Highlighted Techniques:

Automated clinical PCR system, Clinical whole blood analyzer, Point-of-care glucose, creatinine, lactate, ketone, and cardiac biomarker testing systems
